The Physical Therapy Department at Children's Hospital Boston provides evaluation, individualized treatment and a lifetime of follow-up care to newborns, infants, children, adolescents, and young adults with disabilities or complex medical needs.

Care is provided for patients with congenital and acquired conditions and disabilities, and for patients with injuries resulting from trauma, performing arts or sports-related activities.

We also provide consultation to the medical and surgical staff throughout the hospital regarding physical therapy services. Physical Therapy services are offered on both an inpatient and outpatient basis.

Position Details

· Performs diagnostic evaluations upon referral by physician. Verifies appropriateness of referral, contacting physician as necessary.
· Reviews patient medical history/record and selects, administers and interprets standardized tests and measurements in order to assess cardiopulmonary, developmental, musculoskeletal, neurological and sensorimotor function.
· Develops and implements individualized patient treatment programs. Establishes treatment goals and prescribes and administers appropriate physical therapy procedures.
· Prepares discharge plans and home treatment programs and provides instruction and education to patients and families. Monitors treatment outcomes, modifying program as needed and communicating recommendations to physicians and other providers.
· Records assessments, diagnoses and treatment in patient medical record according to established documentation standards. Prepares reports, correspondence, referrals and other materials for schools, providers, payors and others as needed. Assigns standardized billing codes and corresponding charges required for reimbursement.
· Serves as clinical instructor in departmental student externship program upon completion of eligibility requirements. Plans learning objectives and arranges related clinical experiences. Monitors performance, provides guidance and feedback and prepares and conducts student evaluations.
· Participates in unit and department quality improvement program. Identifies and recommends quality indicators, collects and organizes data and assists in preparing recommendations to improve efficiency and quality of service delivery.
· Develops clinical knowledge and skills through participation in professional organizations, attending continuing education programs, peer review and other related internal and external resources. Represents department at patient cares rounds and participates in designated departmental and interdisciplinary committees and meetings.
· Contributes to teamwork.

Position Qualifications

· Bachelor's degree in Physical Therapy.
· 3 – 6 months of experience on the job.
· Excellent Analytical and Communication skills.
· Current licensure as a Physical Therapist by the state board of registration of allied health professions.
